WHOLE WHEAT CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

-2 sticks salted butter, softened to room temp -1 cup granulated sugar -1 cup brown sugar, packed -2 1/2 tsp vanilla -2 eggs, room temperature -1/3 cup cocoa powder -2 3/4 cup whole wheat flour -3/4 tsp salt -1 tsp baking soda -1/2 tsp baking powder -2 cups chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (or a blend of both!) -Sea salt, for topping

Preheat oven to 375F.  In a small mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda and baking powder. Set aside. 

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and both sugars until creamy. Add egg and vanilla and beat again until combined. Add dry ingredients and beat until fully combined. Stir in chocolate.

Scoop cookie dough by 1 1/2 tbsp onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Leaving at least 3 inches of space around each cookie. Bake for 9-11 minutes. 

For perfectly round cookies, place a round biscuit cutter over a cookie and scoot the cookie back and forth. 

Sprinkle with sea salt and allow to cool on baking sheet 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
