Ingredients

  • 3 gala or fuji apples (diced (about 4 cups))
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/8 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Combine diced apple with water, maple syrup, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a pot and stir.

  2. Cook over medium heat, covered, for about 15 minutes or until apples are soft. Stir occasionally and reduce heat if liquid cooks away before apples are soft. Add more water by the tbsp and cook until apples are soft.

  3. Transfer compote to a glass mason jar and store in the fridge for up to one week.
