Refreshing Sweet Tea

A simple recipe today for making your own Sweet Tea at home. Made with just 3 ingredients, plus one secret optional one 😉 It’s easy to make a big pitcher to keep in the fridge for hot summer afternoons.

I usually like my tea hot and my coffee iced but I like to mix it up every now and then. Iced tea has been sounding so good this summer. It’s been so hot and sometimes I just want that refreshing, non-creamy vibe that iced tea provides. I also love that it’s so easy to make a big batch and keep it in the fridge for whenever the mood strikes. Let’s make some!

Ingredients for making sweet tea

All you will need is: black tea bags, boiling water and sugar. I also recently read that a lot of southerners put a little pinch of baking soda in their sweet tea to reduce bitterness and I have to say I think I can tell the difference. It’s optional but worth a try!

How to make it

Nothing complicated here! Start by boiling 6 cups of water. Then pour it over 16 tea bags, yep, 16. We need strong tea to stand up to ice and all the sugar. When you add the water, make sure the press the tea bags down so they are fully submerged in the hot water.

Steep for 5 minutes.

Add sugar. Lots of it! This is sweet tea after all. Add your pinch of baking soda now if you wish. Then stir it well until the sugar is dissolved.

Store this in the fridge until ready to serve. Be sure to serve over a big cup of ice with lots of lemon slices/wedges! It’s so good! Metal straw (affiliate link) is optional but I really love these! This pack comes with different lengths, bent and straight and cleaning brushes.
