What is a London Fog Latte?
A London Fog latte is a warm tea latte made with Earl Grey tea, steamed milk, vanilla, and a touch of sweetness. It’s smooth, lightly floral, and comforting—similar to a coffee latte, but made with tea instead of espresso.
Unlike milk tea, which is typically sweeter and often served iced, a London Fog is traditionally served hot and has a lighter, more balanced flavor.
Why you’ll love this recipe
Warm, creamy, and comforting – the perfect cozy drink when you want something a little more special than plain tea
Balanced flavor – the citrusy notes of Earl Grey pair beautifully with vanilla and milk
Easy to make at home – no fancy equipment needed, just a few simple ingredients
Customizable – adjust the sweetness, milk, or tea strength to suit your taste
A great coffee alternative – a smooth, lightly caffeinated option without espresso
Ingredients for London Fog Latte
- Earl Grey Tea bags or loose leaf tea
- Hot water
- Sugar – granulated cane sugar gives the best results
- Milk of choice – my favorite to tea lattes is 2% as it has just enough creaminess without overpowering the tea. But if you have any plant-based milks you like or want to use whole or nonfat milk, give it a try!
- Vanilla bean paste (affiliate link) or vanilla extract
How to Make a London Fog Latte
Start by boiling water and adding it to your mug with an Earl Grey tea bag. If you use loose-leaf tea, add your tea to a tea infuser. A general rule is to use one teaspoon of loose tea per 6oz of water.
Steep for 3-5 minutes.
Add sugar and stir until dissolved. You can also add vanilla bean paste (affiliate link) at this point if you’re using it.

Warm your milk in a small pot on the stove until hot or in the microwave for 30 seconds to a minute. Use a milk frother (affiliate link) to make it foamy (if you’re feeling fancy)!
Then add the hot milk to your tea.

I just bought a bottle of dried edible flowers so I topped mine with a few for an extra special touch, but that’s definitely not required and does not affect taste.
These are the ones I bought and I love them! But there are cheaper options if you look around on Etsy!
Tips and substitutions
Make it dairy-free: Use oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk for a creamy plant-based version. Oat milk works especially well for frothing.
Adjust sweetness: Start with a small amount of sugar, then adjust to taste. You can also use honey, maple syrup, or vanilla syrup instead.
Boost the vanilla flavor: Vanilla bean paste gives the richest flavor, but vanilla extract or vanilla syrup works just as well.
Stronger tea flavor: use an extra tea bag for a bolder London Fog.
Make it extra cozy: Froth your milk for a café-style finish at home.
